New Firm Formation and Inherited Organizational Capabilities in the Early Evolution of an Industrial Cluster: Developing Taxonomies of Entry

چکیده
The geographic element through studies of cities and regions has recently been rediscovered in economic research. Understanding why economic activity tends to concentrate geographically is by many believed to hold important information for the understanding of economic growth and international trade in general. Early contributions of the classical location theory provide the first explanations for geographic concentration of industries. These models described how factors such as transport cost of inputs (Weber, 1928; Isard, 1949), competitors location (Pred, 1966), and distance to consumers (Von Thünen, 1826; Lösch, 1954) determined the optimal location of manufacturing activities.
